Director

Joe Anzalone is a Director and Consulting Actuary in River and Mercantile’s New York City office. Joe helps his clients with many aspects of their defined benefit pension plans, including design, compliance, financial risk management, and administration. Joe has worked in the field for over 10 years, and has serviced plans with as few as 3 and as many as 90,000 participants. He has consulted on areas such as plan terminations, lump sum windows, mergers and spinoffs, liability-driven investing, and nondiscrimination testing. In addition to qualified pension plans, Joe works with retiree medical plans and non-qualified pension plans. Joe joined River and Mercantile in 2018, having previously worked at Mercer. Joe is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. Joe graduated from Columbia University with a BA in Mathematics and Economics.

James was appointed Group Chief Executive of River and Mercantile Group plc in July 2019. James founded River and Mercantile Asset Management LLP (RAMAM) in 2006 with the backing of Pacific Investments and was its Chief Executive Officer until the merger with P-Solve in 2014. Thereafter James became Global Head of Distribution before becoming Head of Asset Management in 2016 and subsequently Deputy Group Chief Executive Officer in 2018. Through this period, he retained his responsibilities for Group wide distribution. James completed his education at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and following service with the Royal Welch Fusiliers joined Shandwick Consultants in 1989. He subsequently joined James Capel in 1991. In 1995 James was part of the team that founded and successfully floated Liontrust Asset Management plc, where he established and managed the institutional business. James joined Intermediate Capital Group in 2004 as Sales and Marketing Director, leaving to establish the RAMAM business with the financial backing of Pacific Investments. Having founded RAMAM in 2006, James has served on the Board since the IPO of the Company and brings not only extensive experience and knowledge of the Group combined but significant asset management industry expertise and commerciality to his leadership of the Group.

Ron Barin is a Senior Advisor in River and Mercantile’s New York office. Ron will work to provide customized, cutting edge pension risk management solutions to our institutional clients. Prior to joining River and Mercantile, Ron was Vice President, Chief Investment Officer at Alcoa Corporation and Alcoa Inc. for 10 years where he developed an innovative, derivative and risk factor based pension investment strategy to enhance the management of Alcoa’s pension risk in a corporate finance framework to make it more robust across different macro-economic regimes. While at Alcoa Inc, Ron was responsible for the investments of assets totaling $12 billion across Alcoa’s defined benefit, defined contribution and the Alcoa Foundation. Prior to Alcoa, he served as Senior Director (CIO), Pension Investments for Pfizer Inc., where he was responsible for the investment of retirement assets totaling $22 billion. Before this assignment, Ron served as Director of Financial Risk Management for Pfizer mitigating its foreign exchange and interest rate risk via derivative based strategies. Earlier in his career, he worked for Emcor Financial Risk Management Consulting, Estee Lauder and Unilever in various treasury-related financial risk management roles. Ron’s innovative approach to pension investment management has been recognized by the investment industry – Ron won the AI CIO magazine investment strategy innovation award in 2015, won the Institutional Investor magazine hedge fund investor award in 2012 and in 2015 was elected as a member of the 300 Club, which is a global group of leading investment professionals seeking to challenge the investment status quo and improve the management of investment risk to provide better outcomes for asset owner beneficiaries. Ron is co-founder and a member of the Board of Directors of Smile in a Bag Inc, a nonprofit organization, based on Long Island, NY, which donates toy-filled activity bags to hospitalized children in order to provide distraction and comfort. Ron holds an M.B.A. and a B.S. in Finance from New York University.

In his role, Elliott supports the Investment Team, focusing on derivatives modelling, research, and implementation, as well as client reporting. Elliott graduated from the Honors College at Northeastern University with a B.S. in Math and Economics, and a minor in Arabic, and has passed the CFA Level I Exam.

Al Bryant, CFA is a portfolio manager and CIO/DOR in the Industrial Life Cycle (ILC) Equity team, specifically managing the Emerging Market (large cap) and Emerging Market Opportunities (smid cap) strategies. Mr. Bryant joined River and Mercantile in June of 2017. Prior to that, Al spent twelve years at Credit Suisse.  During that time, Al focused on developing and implementing global equity investment strategies based upon the ILC framework. The ILC framework is a structured global equity investment process that Al has been developing since 2004. Prior to joining Credit Suisse, Mr. Bryant spent four years as a portfolio manager for institutional and private clients at Segall Bryant & Hamill Investment Counsel, based in Chicago. Mr. Bryant holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA in Urban Studies and Economics from the College of Wooster

Charlie is a Managing Director in River and Mercantile’s Boston office and a senior advisor to our US actuarial team. He has served clients and their retirement plans for over 30 years and has extensive experience with all aspects of post-employment benefit plans including qualified and non-qualified defined benefit and defined contribution plans, multi-employer plans and post-retirement medical benefit programs. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2009, Charlie spent 17 years with Aon Consulting, where he was the Boston Retirement Practice Leader and served two years as Chair of Aon’s National Practice Council. Charlie has spoken at numerous conferences and has published numerous articles. In 2010, Charlie was elected to a three year term on the Society of Actuaries’ Pension Section Council. Charlie is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He has a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Jim Camann is a Director and Consulting Actuary in River and Mercantile's Denver office. Jim has developed a wide range of benefit plan expertise to best match his clients’ needs and deliver strategic solutions. He consults on a variety of defined benefit and retiree medical plan projects including plan design, pension risk transfers, benefit administration, funding and accounting valuations, nondiscrimination testing, forecasting, and government form filings. With over 24 years of benefit consulting experience, Jim joined the River and Mercantile team in 2020 after many years working as a consulting actuary with Willis Towers Watson. Jim is an Enrolled Actuary and graduated from the University of Arizona with a BA in Mathematics.

Tom Cassara is a Managing Director in River and Mercantile’s New York office and Head of the US business. In his role he consults with institutional clients across the investment and actuarial spectrum. This includes defined benefit, defined contribution, not for profit and retiree medical. Tom works with clients to bring his 30 years of experience across a wide range of institutional organizations to provide custom solutions. Prior to joining River and Mercantile, Tom was a Senior Partner with Mercer leading their US East Wealth business in addition to providing strategic investment and actuarial advice to clients. He has consulted to organizations with less than $100M in assets to greater than $5B in assets. Included in his experience is working with corporate, not for profit, church, healthcare and endowments and foundations. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary, a CFA charterholder and has a Series 3 license. Tom has a Bachelor of Science degree from Wake Forest University.

In addition to his analyst role, Ravi is responsible for coordinating macro-economic research efforts as a senior member of River and Mercantile Group’s Macro team. Prior to joining River and Mercantile, Ravi held roles at HSBC and KPMG. Ravi graduated from the London School of Economics with a First Class Honors degree in Economics, and is a CFA charterholder.

Michael Clark is a Managing Director and Consulting Actuary in River and Mercantile's Denver office. In his role he consults on all aspects of financial risk management for defined benefit plans as well as retiree medical plans and defined contribution plans. He also has led numerous clients through pension risk transfers as well as other complex, strategic pension projects. Michael leads River and Mercantile’s business in the West as well as Business Development for the US. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2013, Michael worked for Mercer as well as October Three. He currently serves as Immediate Past President for the Conference of Consulting Actuaries as well as providing leadership to several committees. He also participates in the leadership of the Western Pension & Benefits Council – Denver Chapter. Michael is a frequent speaker at industry and professional association conferences on the topics of pension risk management and pension plan administration and has had several articles published in major trade magazines. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. Michael graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University with a BS in Statistics.

Yutian Fang is an Investment Analyst in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. In his role, he supports the investment team applying data analytical skills for fund research and risk analysis, performing tasks including reconciling, trading and reporting related to fiduciary management, and assists with derivatives trading and other liability driven investment strategies. Yutian received an M.S. in Finance with a concentration in Risk Management from Brandeis International Business School. Prior to that, he graduated from Sichuan University with a Bachelor of Economics in Financial Engineering and spent an academic year on exchange at Fu Jen Catholic University studying Information Management. He is currently a CFA Level II candidate.

Conor Fortin is a Senior Business Development and Marketing Associate in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. Along with managing marketing and public relations for R&M’s US business, Conor also helps design and execute business development related initiatives for all solutions offered by R&M US. He also frequently works on marketing and business development projects affecting the global firm helping keep the River and Mercantile brand and image consistent. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2017, Conor spent 4 years at a leading health IT security firm in their Professional Services and Sales divisions. Conor graduated from Elon University with a B.A. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing.

Philip Gorgone is a Managing Director & Senior Investment Consultant in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. Phil is responsible for managing the US Investment Team, which includes design, management, implementation, and governance of client portfolios. He also chairs the U.S. Investment Committee and is a voting member of the Fiduciary Management and Insurance Investment Committees. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2006, Phil spent 7 years with John Hancock as a member of the Global Investment Strategy Team, which was responsible for the portfolio management, manager selection and oversight for Hancock’s General Account, 401K, and Pension portfolios. Prior to Hancock, Phil worked as a Portfolio Manager/Director of Research with Durkee Capital Advisors and as a Research Analyst with Magna Venture Partners. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation, is a Commodity Trading Advisor, and holds a Series 3 license. Phil has a B.B.A. (Honors) in Finance from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst and has an M.S. in Finance from Suffolk University (1st in his class).

Falko is an investment analyst and assistant portfolio manager in the Industrial Life Cycle (ILC) Equity team. Falko joined River and Mercantile in June 2017. Prior to that, he spent seven years at Credit Suisse Asset Management in Switzerland, UK and USA. He was a Vice President and assistant portfolio manager in the Global Equity Investment Group in Chicago. Before Chicago he was involved in the setup of new businesses and the due diligence process of seed capital investments in hedge funds within the Emerging Markets Group at Credit Suisse in the UK. Prior to that he participated in manager selection for directional strategies and was part of a fund of hedge fund investment team at Credit Suisse in Switzerland. Falko holds a Master of Science in Finance and Investments from Rotterdam School of Management, and a BS in Business with a Major in Finance from University of San Francisco McLaren School of Management. He is a CFA charterholder.

Judy Ingham is an Associate Director and Senior Actuarial Analyst in River and Mercantile Boston office. She is responsible for all aspects of the annual valuation process for both qualified and non-qualified plans, including reporting and disclosure under FASB ASC 715 and 960. Other responsibilities are plan administration, compliance, and special projects such as plan terminations and de-risking activities. She also provides support in areas of workflow supervision and project management. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2001, Judy spent 19 years with William M. Mercer’s Boston office. Judy earned a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of New Hampshire and has a graduate degree in Software Engineering from Harvard University Extension School.

Prior to joining River and Mercantile, Jamie spent six years at DDJ Capital Management, LLC working on both the Analytics and Compliance teams, most recently as a Performance Analyst. Prior to her time at DDJ, Jamie worked in Client Operations at State Street. Jamie holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston University’s Questrom School of Business with a concentration in Finance. She is a current MBA candidate at the Carroll School of Management at Boston College.

Andrew Lape is an Associate Director and Consulting Actuary in River and Mercantile’s Denver office. He is responsible for consulting with clients on their day-to-day retirement benefit needs including defined benefit pension, SERP, and retiree medical plans. He also consults on clients’ plan design, administration, risk transfer opportunities, M&A, and overall risk management. Prior to joining River and Mercantile, Andrew started his actuarial career at Willis Towers Watson where he spent 8 years consulting for retirement plans large to small, including organizations with pension plans in other countries. Andrew is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. He earned a BS in Mathematics with a concentration in Actuarial Science from Colorado State University, along with minors in Statistics and Japanese Language.

Maureen Lewis is a Director and Consulting Actuary in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. In her role, Maureen provides overall support of clients’ day-to-day needs. Projects include actuarial valuations, employee benefit statements, benefit calculations, government filings, de-risking strategies, and plan terminations. Internally, Maureen is also responsible for the management and training of all analyst-level actuarial staff within the firm. Maureen is an Enrolled Actuary, a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries, and a candidate for membership of the Society of Actuaries. She earned a BA in Mathematics with a concentration in Business Studies from Providence College.

Mike Lynch is a Director and Senior Investment Consultant in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. He works with the Boards, Trustees and Investment Committees of corporations, municipalities and other public entities, endowment & foundations and Taft Hartley organizations in setting investment strategy, risk management and asset allocation. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2001, Mike worked at Higgins Associates and Bay Colony Financial Management. Mike is a voting member of the US Investment Committee. The Committee determines asset allocation for all US discretionary portfolios. He is also a member of the Global Equity research team and the US Defined Contribution team. A primary responsibility of each team is to identify appropriate investments and strategy for client portfolios. Mike graduated with a BA, International Studies, from Stonehill College. He’s been active in local youth and service organizations.

Terence Mahoney is a Director and US Head of Legal and Compliance in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. In this role, Terence advises the US business on its investment advisor compliance program and provides legal assistance on a variety of matters. Terence also interacts with the compliance and legal divisions in the firm’s London office on inter-company related matters. Prior to joining River and Mercantile, Terence was a Senior Compliance Manager in the compliance department of MFS Investment Management and an Associate Counsel in the legal departments of Manulife Financial and John Hancock Financial Services. Terence is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in European History from Harvard University and a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School.

Ryan McGlothlin is a Managing Director in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. He is the portfolio manager for the firm’s Active Structured Equity strategies and is on the Macro investment team. He works with all types of institutional investors on customized investment and risk management strategies. Ryan joined River and Mercantile in 2007 to found its US business. He holds an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a B.A. (Honors) from the University of Texas at Austin

Tim is a Director in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. Tim is responsible for managing the US Solutions Trading and Operations group, which includes trade execution/settlement, maintenance of investment IT infrastructure and the orchestration of client account transitions. Additionally, he is responsible for design, management, implementation and governance of client portfolios. Additionally, Tim serves as a trader for the ILC Emerging Markets strategies. He is a member of the U.S. Investment Committee as well as the Compliance and Trading Best Execution review group. Tim graduated from the University at Buffalo with a B.S. in Business Administration. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and holds a Series 3 license. Tim is a member of the CFA Society Boston and the Boston Securities Traders Association.

Sean McSweeney is an Associate Director and Consultant in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. In that role, he manages and consults on the actuarial work for the defined benefit plans as well as the retiree medical plans. That includes routine projects such as the annual ERISA and accounting valuations, benefit calculation certification and employee benefit statements, and government filings. It also includes more complex special projects such as plan design, early retirement windows, union negotiations, nondiscrimination testing, and plan terminations. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2007, Sean worked for Diversified Investment Advisors as well as Towers Perrin. Sean graduated from the University of Rochester with a B.A. in Mathematics and Statistics with an Actuarial Studies Certificate.

Lauren Meyer is a Director and Consulting Actuary in River and Mercantile’s Denver office. She advises plan sponsors on the financial and operational aspects of retirement plan management. Lauren is responsible for overseeing actuarial and administration services on her clients and consulting on strategic opportunities, such as those related to risk reduction and benefit design. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2016, Lauren spent eight years at Willis Towers Watson where she consulted for mid to large size U.S. and international corporations. She has experience with qualified and non-qualified defined benefit plans, defined contribution plans, and post-retirement welfare plans. She has worked extensively on data clean-up and forecasting projects and enjoys helping plan sponsors set and achieve goals surrounding their benefit plans. Lauren is an Enrolled Actuary and a Fellow of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries. She received a B.B.A. degree with distinction in Actuarial Science and Risk Management & Insurance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Justyna is a Director and Investment Consultant with River and Mercantile’s Boston office. Justyna has 10 years of institutional financial services experience working with both pure consulting as well as full fiduciary management clients. She is responsible for the implementation, design and governance of several defined benefit and defined contribution retirement plans. In addition, she is responsible for the development of the investment governance framework of the River and Mercantile’s Investment Team. She is a member of the US Investment Committee and several research teams. Prior to joining River and Mercantile she worked for Citizens Bank, where she served in a client relations and sales capacity. Justyna holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® designation and is a member of the CFA Society Boston. She has a B.A. in Economics and M.S. in Finance from Clark University.

John was appointed to the Board on 16 February 2018. John is the Chair of the Risk Committee and the Group Board Investment Committee. Additionally, he sits on the Audit, Remuneration and Nomination Committees. John has extensive financial services and non-executive experience. John has over 40 years’ experience in financial services and was the Chief Operating Officer of Baring Asset Management Limited for 11 years. John was formerly the Chairman of Aviva Investors. John holds a number of non-executive roles with major financial services institutions. John currently serves as the Chair of Hargreaves Lansdown Fund Managers Limited, Chair of JPMorgan China Growth and Income plc, and as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Risk and Remuneration Committees of Brown Shipley & Co. Limited. John brings significant financial services experience to the Board. He has in-depth expertise in organisational compliance, operations and risk. John’s valuable nonexecutive experience combined with his deep understanding of risk and insight into regulatory matters is crucial to his role as Chair of the Risk Committee. As the Group operates within a highly regulated environment, regulatory experience and understanding of risk management is vital to the sustainability of the long-term success of the Company.

Kevin Morrison is a Managing Director in River and Mercantile’s Boston office and leads the US Actuarial Business. As a consulting actuary, Kevin supports clients in all aspects of their retirement programs, including defined benefit, defined contribution, and other post-employment benefit (OPEB) plans. In addition to delivering the recurring annual valuation results and helping clients meet financial reporting requirements under US GAAP, IFRS, and GASB accounting standards, he provides clients with consultative support and cost analysis around plan design, forecasting, de-risking strategies, and plan terminations. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2016, Kevin was a consulting actuary with John Hancock Retirement Plan Services and was part of the acquisition of New York Life Retirement Plan Services. Kevin started his actuarial career with Mercer in 2004. Kevin is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries, an Enrolled Actuary under the Joint Board for the Enrollment of Actuaries, and a Member of the American Academy of Actuaries. He received a B.A. in Math and Physics from the College of the Holy Cross.

Joanne O’Donnell is a Director in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. Joanne is part of the actuarial team where she works with defined contribution plans by providing administrative, consulting, testing and design services to a number of such plans. She formerly taught mathematics at Duquesne University. She is a Qualified Plan Administrator, Qualified 401(k) Plan Administrator, and member of the American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries. In addition, Joanne has been approved by the IRS as an Enrolled Retirement Plan Agent. She is a graduate of California State University and the University of Pittsburgh (M.S. in Mathematics).

Craig Pedersen is an Associate Director and consulting actuary in River and Mercantile’s Denver office. In his role he assists with a wide variety of projects related to retiree medical plans, defined benefit plans and other post-employment benefit plans. Craig has over 25 years of actuarial experience in retirement and health consulting. He has worked with many clients to help them understand and manage their post-employment benefits, financial requirements and the needs of their current, future and former employees. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2020, Craig worked as an actuary for Philadelphia American Life Insurance Company, Towers Perrin, Mercer, Chicago Consulting Actuaries, Watson Wyatt, Towers Watson and Willis Towers Watson. Additionally, in 2019 Craig began a part-time career as an adjunct instructor in Mathematics and tutor with the Colorado Community College System. He is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. Craig has completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois-Urbana and a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Craig has still not completed a Doctorate, but he did complete several years of graduate work towards a doctorate while studying Mathematics at the University of Houston-Downtown.

Sudin Poddar, CFA is a Portfolio Manager and Analyst on the Industrial Life Cycle (ILC) Equity team. Prior to joining River and Mercantile Group in June of 2017, Mr. Poddar spent ten years at Credit Suisse helping build and grow a core equities business centered on the Industrial Life Cycle framework. Primary amongst his responsibilities was to manage a Global All Country Small Cap strategy which was incepted in January of 2014. Mr. Poddar holds an MBA in Financial Analysis and a BS in Business with a Major in Finance from Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

David Rosenblum is a Managing Director and Consulting Actuary in River and Mercantile’s New York City office. In his role he consults on all aspects of retirement plans, including financial management, plan design, exit strategies and multiple employer plan consulting. Prior to joining River and Mercantile, David was at Mercer for 29 years where he led the NY Retirement and Wealth Business and was a member of the US Leadership team. During this time, he gained significant experience consulting to numerous Fortune 500 and Fortune 100 companies with jumbo defined benefit plans. He was an innovation leader at Mercer, developing new and unique pension strategies. David also has been a speaker on workforce and pension cost savings strategies at SOA, World at Work and CIEBA conferences. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and an Enrolled Actuary. David graduated from Colgate University with a BA in Economics.

Caytee Sellers is a Senior Actuarial Analyst in River and Mercantile’s Denver office. She provides support in a wide range of actuarial work including funding and accounting valuations for pension, SERP and retiree medical plans, along with preparation of benefit statements, government form filings and other plan administration. She also assists with pension risk transfers and other special projects. Prior to joining River and Mercantile, Caytee spent five years at Willis Towers Watson where she assisted in multiple actuarial projects for mid to large U.S. and international corporations. She has experience in data clean-up, pension risk transfers and overall plan administration. Caytee is an Associate of the Society of Actuaries. She graduated for the University of Colorado at Boulder with a BA in Applied Mathematics and a certificate in Actuarial Science.

Prior to this, Ryan was a Senior Investment Analyst on the Solutions team in Boston, MA, where his primary responsibilities included investment manager research, DB and DC reporting, and database development and maintenance. Ryan graduated from Bentley University in 2015 with a BS in Economics-Finance and is a CFA Charterholder.

Will is Head of North America Sales and is based in River and Mercantile’s Chicago office. In his role, Will is responsible for US consultant relationships and consulting with clients on their asset management and risk management needs. Prior to joining River and Mercantile, Will was a Principal at LaSalle Street Capital Management and spent 8 years at Credit Suisse where he was instrumental in the purchase of HOLT Value Associates, and served as the Co-Head of the HOLT US, a member of the Director promotion committee and as a Portfolio Manager investing in equities and utilizing derivative overlays. He started his career as a valuation specialist with a focus on shareholder value creation. Will holds an MBA and a BA from Illinois State University.

James Walton is an Investment Director in River and Mercantile’s Boston office. James works with clients on financial risk management, develops investment strategies and derivative solutions. He also leads the due diligence of annuity providers and is a member of the US Investment Committee James joined River and Mercantile in May 2016 from Legal and General, a UK based insurance group. He performed a number of investment management roles relating to the retirement business. This included ALM, credit strategy, illiquid assets and responsibility for the investment strategy of the US Pension Risk Transfer business. James started his career at Aon as an ALM consultant to defined benefit pension plans where he also developed Aon’s LDI, strategic asset allocation processes and analytics. James is a qualified actuary and holds a Masters degree in Physics (Summa Cum Laude) from The University of Oxford.

Adam White is an Associate Director in River and Mercantile's Boston office. Adam serves as the main contact with annuity providers for all pension de-risking activities and coordinates timing and delivery of all materials between the client, annuity providers, and River and Mercantile. Adam also provides actuarial support for a broad range of client needs including actuarial valuations, benefit calculations, data cleanup projects, government filings, and various other ad-hoc assignments. Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2015, Adam worked for Delaware Life Holdings for two years as an Actuarial Analyst focusing on fixed and variable annuity experience studies. Adam is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. He graduated from Boston College with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Mathematics and Economics.

Prior to joining River and Mercantile in 2020, Matthew graduated summa cum laude from Brandeis University with a BA in Mathematics and Economics. He is a candidate for membership in the Society of Actuaries.

Angela was appointed to the Board on 29 May 2014. Angela is Chair of the Company’s Audit Committee, the Senior Independent Director and additionally sits on the Remuneration, Nomination, Group Board Investment and Risk Committees. Angela is a chartered accountant with extensive audit experience of multinational and listed companies. Angela was a Partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers specialising in financial services for 30 years during which time she led the insurance and investment management division and retired in 2008. In previous roles, Angela served as a Non-Executive Director of Beazley plc and Swinton Group Limited. Angela is a Non-Executive Director and audit chair of Lloyds of London, TP ICAP plc and Openwork Holdings Limited. As a qualified Chartered Accountant, Angela brings substantial industry, and technical financial experience to the Board. Angela contributes scrutiny and oversight to the Board, drawing on her experience of audit and advisory work to multinational and listed companies. Her previous roles as Non-Executive Director of Beazley plc and Swinton Group Limited cement her extensive financial services sector experience. As reflected in her current appointments, Angela has significant experience as a Non- Executive Director and audit committee chair of major financial services institutions. Angela’s audit and industry experience allow her to bring a financial and strategic outlook on diverse subjects in support of the Board and its Committees. Her considerable knowledge and experience continue to be an important contribution to the long-term sustainable success of the Company.

Jonathan was appointed to the Board on 1 October 2017 as Chairman of the Company and is the Chair of the Nomination Committee. A graduate of the universities of St Andrews and Cambridge, Jonathan started his career in the Ministry of Defence before joining Lazard, the investment bank, where he spent over 20 years. He left Lazard in 2005 and co-founded Penfida Limited, the leading independent corporate finance advisor to pension fund trustees. Jonathan previously served as Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Remuneration Committee of Next plc. Jonathan has also chaired three pension scheme boards of trustees. Other previous appointments include, Non-Executive Director of Galliford Try plc, National Australia Group Europe Limited and Standard Life Investments (Holdings) Limited. Most recently Jonathan served as Senior Independent Director and Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of Jardine Lloyd Thompson Group plc. Jonathan currently serves as a Non-Executive Director and Chair of the Remuneration Committee of National Grid plc and is the Chairman of Penfida Limited. Jonathan has extensive financial services, pensions and non-executive experience. Jonathan is an experienced leader, having held senior board level positions in several high profile organisations. He previously held the position of Senior Independent Director of Next plc and Jardine Lloyd Thompson group plc. Jonathan brings an innovative perspective and independent oversight to the Board. Jonathan’s breadth of experience, understanding of diverse issues and strong corporate governance expertise allow him to lead an effective Board and are vital to the Company’s long-term sustainable success.

Miriam was appointed to the Board on 28 May 2019. Miriam is Chair of the Company’s Remuneration Committee and additionally sits on the Audit, Group Board Investment, Nomination and Risk Committees. With qualifications as a barrister and in corporate finance, Miriam has spent more than 30 years working for a number of leading investment banks and other financial institutions. A Deputy Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh, Miriam was awarded an OBE for services to corporate finance in 2000. In previous roles Miriam served as a Non-Executive Director of the UK energy regulator OFGEM, Henderson Global Trust plc, Mithras Investment Trust plc and Telit Communications plc. Miriam was also a founding partner in SPARK Advisory Partners, an independent corporate advisory business. Miriam currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Smart Metering Systems plc, as Non-Executive Director of Eclipse Shipping Limited and of Gulf International Bank (UK) Limited. She is an advisor to Ofgem and the Mayor of London’s Energy Efficiency Fund. Miriam, through her broad range of expertise and experience within the financial services sector, brings significant in-depth understanding of remuneration and financial matters to her role as Chair of the Remuneration Committee. Miriam has relevant and recent experience as a remuneration committee chair, having chaired the Remuneration Committee of Smart Metering Systems plc, where she also served as Senior Independent Director prior to her appointment as Chair of their Board. Miriam has garnered further remuneration committee experience serving on the remuneration Committees of Telit Communications plc and Henderson Global Trust plc. As a Non-Executive Director, Miriam brings scrutiny, constructive challenge and independent oversight to the Board.

Simon was appointed to the Board as an Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer on 19 May 2020. Simon is a Chartered Accountant and has over 20 years’ experience in asset management and the financial services sector gained in senior financial roles. Prior to joining, Simon spent five years as Group Finance Director for the Topland Group, one of the UK’s largest privately owned investment groups which focuses on real estate, hotels, healthcare and the provision of equity and debt finance. He qualified as a Chartered Accountant at Deloitte in its financial services assurance department in London and moved to Hawkpoint, the M&A advisory business, where he advised on public and private transactions, capital raises and IPOs in the financial services and mid-market sectors. From Hawkpoint he joined the financial services investment group, Pacific Investments, where he spent twelve years, latterly as Managing Director of Corporate Finance and Chief Operating Officer of fund management. While at Pacific Investments, Simon represented Pacific’s interests in River and Mercantile Asset Management LLP from its formation in 2006 until its merger in 2014 prior to the IPO of the Company. Simon has significant financial experience, having held a number of senior financial roles. This, combined with his asset management experience and previous knowledge of the Group’s asset management business, allows him to bring in-depth expertise on a broad range of relevant areas to the Board. His appointment completes the Group’s refreshed senior management team which is integral to the delivery of the Group Chief Executive’s strategy. Simon’s contribution to the Board and senior management team is key to the long-term sustainable success of the Company.
