R&M’s European equity fund reaches £100m as it passes first anniversary
The fund, which celebrated its anniversary at the end of September, has surpassed £100m AUM.
River and Mercantile (“R&M”) today announced that its ES River and Mercantile European Fund (the “Fund”), which has just celebrated its first anniversary, has surpassed £100m AUM.
Since its inception on 30 September 2021, the Fund has returned 32% versus the MSCI Europe (ex UK) IMI return of 22%*. The Fund has also recently been added to Square Mile’s Academy of Funds with a Positive Prospect rating.
James Sym, the Fund’s Portfolio Manager, said:
“In what has been a challenging year across economies and markets, I am thrilled the Fund has demonstrated a strong start. Given the significant investment opportunity today in the ongoing European recovery we believe we are also well positioned for further growth.
“Investors are overwhelmingly exposed to the same investment risks, whether it’s a return of inflation and higher rates or a reversal of fortune for well-loved growth stocks. Inflation historically hurts those who underestimate it. Today it is once again rearing its head. We have built a portfolio to protect against this.
“Pragmatism is the watchword, and here the Fund’s business-cycle framework stands us in good stead.”
Simon Smith, Head of Wholesale at River and Mercantile, added:
“We are proud to have grown the Fund to over £100m and to have received our first rating. Although this represents a key milestone in the Fund’s growth, we believe that the best opportunities within European equities are still to come, especially at the value end of the market, where James and the team are perfectly positioned.
Amaya Assan, Head of Fund Origination at Square Mile Investment Consulting and Research, commented:
“We are pleased to include the ES River and Mercantile European fund into our Academy of Funds. We believe the Fund offers investors an attractive and differentiated strategy from many of its peers, with the manager combining a business cycle approach with bottom-up stock analysis and a willingness to take a different view from the consensus.”
