Overview of the Company

River and Mercantile Group Limited (R&M) is an Asset Management business with a broad range of services. Our activities currently focus on Equities and Infrastructure serving a global client base of institutional clients and wholesale and retail financial intermediaries and strategic relationships.

Job Summary

The role holder provides the business management support required by River and Mercantile Infrastructure LLP, the River and Mercantile Infrastructure Income Fund SCSp and any future funds or business lines launched by RMI (“Funds”).

The role has a broad range of responsibilities, primarily focused on ensuring the efficient operation of RMI’s activities and Funds through the provision of business management support to RMI, including:

  • The efficient delivery of all processes including governance, operations, risk management, controls and reporting with respect to RMI, and Funds, as well as ensuring that all the tasks and responsibilities are undertaken by the designated teams in a timely manner.
  • Leading engagement with and being a designated point of contact for River and Mercantile Group functions, including: Legal, Compliance, Risk, Operations, Finance and Distribution.
  • Leading engagement with and being a designated point of contact for third parties related to Funds, including: General Partners (“GP”), AIFMs, Fund Administrators, Depositaries, Auditors and other providers of services to Funds.
  • Day-to-day responsibility for all non-investment related communications with and submissions to parties as required by the above (e.g. various RMI and River and Mercantile Group reports/committees; GP board, AIFM).
  • The timely structuring, incorporation, financing and administration of fund subsidiary entities.
  • Oversight and management of relationships with non-technical service providers (e.g. corporate and administrative service providers) of fund subsidiary entities.
  • Responsibility for the enhancement of all processes relating to RMI and/or Funds
  • Assistance in the development and launch of new funds/products

Specific activities and responsibilities required

Providing oversight that:

  • a governance framework is in place and working effectively
  • a risk management framework is in place and working effectively
  • a control framework is in place and working effectively
  • a management information and reporting framework is in place and working effectively

(e.g. in each case, as relevant, appropriate checks and reconciliations are being done and reports produced)

Ensuring Fund service providers are performing their functions appropriately and in a timely manner, including:

  • Engaging with and assisting Fund:
  • Providing oversight of Fund:
    auditors and other key Fund and Fund subsidiary service providers
  • Enhancing processes and communication/outputs, e.g.
    identifying and implementing measures to enhance the format, accuracy and efficiency of reporting
    co-ordinate and ensure the timely production of management information for RMI and River and Mercantile Group, GP board meetings and meetings with the AIFM of the fund
    provide assistance and oversee the timely production of marketing presentations, fact sheets, investor reports, board reports and compliance statements
    negotiation and completion of standard form documents required by RMI (e.g. non-disclosure agreements, hold harmless letters etc. entered into with third parties in relation to investments or otherwise)

Competencies, knowledge and experience

The applicant will be expected to evidence and demonstrate the following:

  • A broad product and asset knowledge covering infrastructure or other real assets.
  • Infrastructure or other real asset business manager experience
  • The ability and confidence to operate and communicate effectively across all levels of the River and Mercantile Group, as well as with third party entities
  • A self-starter with a proven experience in managing operational and governance frameworks and ensuring that designated areas within the organisation with allocated responsibility undertake their obligations on a timely and accurate basis
  • Problem solver, with the ability to collate all relevant information, assess and analyse the situation, before calmly implementing optimal solutions and meeting time challenged deadlines
  • The ability to demonstrate effective oversight and challenge
  • Proven experience of identifying and implementing steps designed to improve processes and operational resilience and efficiency
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent financial analysis skills
  • Strong written communication skills with an ability to prepare accurate, succinct and considered reports, which make recommendations and proffer solutions which can be implemented
  • Ability to prioritise effectively and organise workflow to meet challenging deadlines

Business awareness / compliance

  • Comply with relevant FCA rules and regulations, and River and Mercantile policies as they apply to the jobholder, including adherence to FCA Individual Conduct Rules.
  • Builds upon understanding of the various aspects of the RMG business and develops relationships with all employees across various functions.

Skills, abilities and personal qualities

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent business experience and will possess proven experience within a business management role in Asset Management.

The applicant should be a technical financial services professional with strong knowledge of real asset fund operations. 5+ years of proven fund business management experience within asset management, as well as demonstrable process management or project management experience. Fund accounting and financial analytics experience would be valuable, but not essential.

A generalist skill set is sought, particularly with a broad knowledge and awareness of legal, accounting and regulatory principles impacting the asset management industry. Knowledge of the regulatory and governance frameworks applicable to Alternative Investment Funds under AIFMD and to UK asset managers/investment advisers is preferred but not essential, if overall investment and product knowledge is sufficiently strong.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential to ensure success by collaborating and building relationships both vertically and horizontally in a fast-paced environment. Problem solving skills are essential along with a flexible and adaptable approach.

Strong analytical, presentation and communication skills, both verbal and written and a high level of self-motivation as well as leadership skills.
