Overview of the Company

River and Mercantile Group Limited (R&M) is an Asset Management business with a broad range of services. Our activities currently focus on Equities and Infrastructure serving a global client base of institutional clients and wholesale and retail financial intermediaries and strategic relationships. The Company is part of the Asset Co Group and currently employs circa 75 people.

Job Summary

The HR Manager will act as the key point of contact for HR matters across the firm and serve as an advisor to the business on people related matters.

They will partner with the business to execute key people processes including performance reviews, talent management, and quarterly and year-end compensation.

Play a key role in the effective day to day delivery of HR service to the business (e.g., ad hoc requests, recruitment, employee relations, terminations, data / reporting).

Manage the outsourcing and provision of HR services and administrations (Benefits, Payroll, Pensions and routine administration).

Contribute to strategic HR projects and continuously seek to identify ways to improve current practices.

Partner with HR outsourcing partners to ensure effective delivery across of recruitment, onboarding, benefits administrations, employee relations and ensuring HR policies are maintained and updated in line with legislation or company changes.

The post holder will be instrumental in delivering HR initiatives aimed at creating efficiency and will help drive the culture, working with managers to create an inclusive, performance focused culture that is committed to talent development and retention.

Specific activities and responsibilities required

Key responsibilities & accountabilities (including but not limited to the following)

Outsourced HR Management

  • Oversee, manage and supervise relevant outsourcers in managing day to day HR Operations including:
    a. Benefits and Pensions Brokers and Administrators (Buck using River +)
    b. Outsourced payroll provider (SD Works)
    c. Outsourced HR Administrators (TBC)
    d. IRIS – Staffology (HR System provider)
    e. Actus (Re-certification systems)

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Possess a working knowledge of the regulatory environment as it pertains to compensation.
  • Supporting the management team in running and administering year-end and quarterly pay, bonus and profit share processes involving both discretionary and formulaic bonus structures.
  • Administration of UCITS deferrals with finance department.
  • Administration of Profit share and TIV (Team Incentive Vehicle) payments for partnerships.
  • Supporting the business in benchmarking and utilising market data (e.g. McLagan) including advising senior management on correct internal and external salary levels for their staff with an eye on equal and gender pay issues.

Employee Relations:

  • Comfortable handing sensitive employee issues with a pragmatic and commercial approach.
  • Managing any employee relations cases that may arise, including sickness absence, disciplinary, performance management, grievances etc.

Learning and Development:

  • Providing effective coaching to employees and managers where appropriate.
  • Sourcing appropriate coaching or development where appropriate.

Performance Management:

  • Support the Leadership team with managing the annual performance management process and annual certification process for regulated staff.

Recruitment:

  • Leading on recruitment with business managers in their business area, including advising managers in all aspect of recruitment, supporting managers in writing job descriptions, market benchmarking, input into managing agency relationships, candidate selection and assessment.

Management reporting:

  • Deliver HR reporting and proactively deliver HR KPI production to support the business.

SMCR:

  • Work with the Compliance provider to log all disciplinary and conduct related issues for certified people.
  • Attendance at Fit & Proper panels when required to present F&P, disciplinary or conduct cases.

Business awareness/Compliance

  • Comply with relevant FCA rules and regulations, and River and Mercantile policies as they apply to the jobholder, including adherence to FCA Individual Conduct Rules.
  • Builds upon understanding of the various aspects of the RMG business and develops relationships with all employees across various functions.

Competencies

Knowledge & experience

Essential:

  • Needs to be agile, flexible, and ideally creative in their approach to problem solving;
  • At least 8 years’ experience in an HR generalist (advisory or BP) role in financial services (FCA regulated);
  • Ability to drive for results and influence line manager;
  • Educated to degree level, ideally with the CIPD (level 5) qualification;
  • Ability to manage day to day HR matters without supervision;
  • Experience in managing employee relations matters, including managing disciplinary, grievance and poor performance hearings to resolution;
  • Experience in supporting managers in running recruitment, shortlisting candidates, giving feedback and candidate experience;
  • Ability to build credibility with line managers to ensure they are the ‘go-to’ person for all day-to-day employee matters;
  • Solid understanding of employment law and best practice, knowing when to seek further advice as appropriate;
  • Excellent attention to detail, ability to check employee correspondence and contracts with accuracy.

Desirable:

  • Relevant prior experience within Asset Management or Financial Services industry
  • Working in an SMCR environment
